Quentin Tarantino Reveals Which Marvel Movie He Wants To Helm

Quentin Tarantino is one of the most talented filmmakers in Hollywood, which begs the question why he still hasn’t directed or worked on any major comic book franchise. Well, although he had expressed his disinterest in the idea, he spoke about one Marvel movie he would consider making.

Speaking during an event to promote his new book, Cinema Speculation, when asked by film critic/host/comic book fan Elvis Mitchel on his thoughts about making one, Tarantino reveals one Marvel movie he would consider: Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos.

Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos features the first appearance of Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson in the MCU) on the front line. Its first issue was published back in May 1963, where Nick Fury and his elite squad were on the cover of the comic book.

Back in 2009, when Quentin Tarantino’s feature film, Inglourious Basterds, was released, he admitted on MTV the influence he had from Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos for the film, considering the film shared a lot of similarities with the comics.

In spite of his refusal to work on comic book adaptations, he once shared on Amy Schumer’s podcast, 3 Girls 1 Keith, about considering making a Luke Cage movie or Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu, both of which were his favorite to collect growing up.

In fact, he was very much in awe about Luke Cage’s character, talking about Marvel’s attempt at a ‘blacksploitation vibe’ for their superhero comics. Read his quote from Yahoo (2016) below:

“I love the way the character was presented so much in the ‘70s. I’m not really that open to a rethinking on who he was. I just think that first issue, that origin issue… was so good, and it was really Marvel’s attempt to try to do a blacksploitation movie vibe as one of their superhero comics. And I thought they nailed it. Absolutely nailed it.”
