Quentin Tarantino Almost Worked On Princess Mononoke English Dub Script

For someone who tends to work on violent films, Quentin Tarantino has a lot of connections with some rather wholesome pop culture staples. We already know that the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood director is planning an R-rated Star Trek film. Now, it has been confirmed that he almost worked on the English dub script for Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke.

The idea of Tarantino writing the script for a Hayao Miyazaki movie is something of an urban legend for some. However, Neil Gaiman has just confirmed that it is actually true. A fan reached out to the Good Omens writer about the rumor and it didn't take long before Gaiman confirmed it.

It's certainly interesting to know that Tarantino was Studio Ghibli's first choice to work on the Princess Mononoke English dub. However, it gets a lot cooler when you realize that the Reservoir Dogs director knew exactly who they should tap instead.

The Princess Mononoke English dub featured the voices of Billy Crudup as Ashitaka, Claire Danes as San, Billy Bob Thornton as Jiko-bo (Jigo), Gillian Anderson as Moro, Minnie Driver as Lady Eboshi, and Tara Strong as Kaya. Although the original version was released in 1997, the English dub was distributed by Miramax in North America in 1999.

Although Tarantino didn't get to work on a Studio Ghibli film, he gained success for other more violent projects. He would direct Kill Bill Vol. 1 just four years after the English dub was released in the US.
