In May 2021, Netflix officially announced that a Bridgerton prequel series was in being developed, and the story would focus on the origins of Queen Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel in Bridgerton). Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is set for a 2023 release. Netflix finally announced the official release date of the series when they premiered the official teaser.

We now know that Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will premiere on May 4, 2023.

In late September 2022, during the Tudum 2022 virtual event, Netflix revealed more details about Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, including its official synopsis, which you can read below:

“Centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.”

As we mentioned above, India Ria Amarteifio will be playing Young Queen Charlotte in the Bridgerton prequel. You might recognize her from shows like Doctor Who, Sex Education, and The Tunnel.

Young King George will be played by Corey Mylchreest (The Sandman). Bridgerton alums Golda Rosheuval, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh will be reprising their roles in the upcoming period drama.

Back in June 2022, Netflix announced two recurring characters named Lord Ledger and Vivian Ledger. Keir Charles will be playing Lord Ledger, and Katie Brayben will play Vivian Ledger.

About a month later, Netflix announced that Connie Jenkins-Greig will be playing the role of Young Violet Ledger. Her character is described as a “kind and inquisitive teenager who has not yet entered the marriage mart … or famously become a Bridgerton.”

Is there a trailer for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story?

During Tudum 2022, Netflix dropped an exclusive clip featuring some of the cast (India Ria Amarteifio, Adjoa Andoh, and Golda Rosheuvel) discussing working together on the upcoming Bridgerton spin-off. The video concludes with a special look at India Ria Amarteifio as a young Charlotte.

The official teaser for the series was released on February 15, one day after Valentine's Day. We see the makings of an epic love story that started all, years before the Bridgertons.

On March 23, a few weeks before the Bridgerton spin-off officially premieres on the streaming platform, Netflix released the official trailer, further intriguing viewers about the politics and the drama behind one of what appears to be the most groundbreaking love stories within the Bridgerton universe.

In April 2022, Just Jared reported that production officially started on Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on April 19, 2022 in London, England. Golda Rosheuvel, Huge Sachs, and several other actors were photographed on the set filming for the prequel series.

However, production may have started earlier as director Tom Verica shared a photo of something related to the Netflix series on his Instagram with a caption that reads: “New chapter. Day 1 filming. Never gets old. #DirectorsPOV Wait til you see what we’ve got in store!” This photo was uploaded on March 28.

According to another Instagram post by Verica, filming officially wrapped on Aug. 30, 2022.
