Prince Harry Says The Royal Family Doesn't Follow The 'Never Complain, Never Explain' Rule?

While speaking with Anderson, Prince Harry said that Queen Elizabeth's rule of never complaining and never explaining is just a motto because it doesn't hold true.

"And every single time I've tried to do it privately there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife. You know the family motto is 'never complain, never explain.' But it's just a motto. And it doesn't really hold," Prince Harry said (via People).

Anderson also asked Prince Harry why he still hasn't renounced his title and noted that this is one of the criticisms he and Meghan Markle have been getting.

However, Prince Harry simply questioned what difference renouncing their titles would make.

The Duke of Sussex made a similar remark during his conversation with Brady.

"Well, there's been a motto, a family motto, of 'never complain, never explain.' And what people have realized now through the Netflix documentary and numerous stories coming out over the years is that that was just a motto. There was a lot of complaining and there was a lot of explaining," he said.

Meghan Markle's husband added that for the past six years, he and his wife have been trying to have private conversations with the royals. However, they haven't been responsive to their attempts.

"We're six years into it now and I have spent every single year of those six doing everything I can privately to get through to my family. And the thing that is the saddest about this, Tom, is it never needed to be this way. It never needed to get to this point. I've had conversations, I've written letters, I've written emails, and everything is just, no, you, this is not what's happening. You are imagining it.' And that's really hard to take," he explained.

Royal Family's 'Never Complain, Never Explain' Rule Dates Back To The 19th Century?

While speaking with People, author Tracy Borman explained why the mantra has worked wonders for Queen Elizabeth during her seven-decade reign.

"The very lack of personal drama has arguably been the secret of Elizabeth II's success," she said.

According to Marie Claire, the mantra may have originated from 19th-century British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. It was adopted by the queen's mom, the Queen Mother. And it has been the royal family's go-to mantra ever since.

In fact, even Queen Consort Camilla has been following the same rule ever since she was a child. During her interview in 2017, King Charles' wife said that she was taught never to complain or explain and just to go on with it.
