Pom Klementieff Says Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Twist Was Planned Before Vol. 3

There is little doubt that the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special had a lot of awesome surprises for fans but the biggest plot twist was revealed early on in the Disney+ feature. So was this something that was cooked up for the special or did James Gunn plan this a long time ago? Pom Klementieff has addressed Mantis' secret, revealing that she had known about the twist even before they started working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

In the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, Mantis decided to save Christmas for Peter Quill by giving him Kevin Bacon as a present. She felt that this was her responsibility as his half-sister since they both have Ego as their father. However, Peter is unaware of their true connection.

So did Pom Klementieff know about the plot twist all this time? The Oldboy star recently spoke to TVLine where she addressed the revelation, confirming that director James Gunn told her about the relationship when they were still working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

“I’ve know this little secret for years, because I knew about it when I was shooting Guardians of the Galaxy 2,” Klementieff said. “I think it was supposed to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and then James Gunn decided to hold onto it and reveal it later.”

Still, she said that the reveal is worth the wait. “It’s nice that it’s out there now,” Klementieff said. “It creates more layers and a special and beautiful, bond between the two characters.”

We're loving the idea that both Mantis and Peter are officially half-siblings and there is little doubt that their relationship will strengthen the bond between the characters.

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is now streaming on Disney+. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to premiere in theaters on May 5, 2023.
