Teased during a post-credits sequence in Pokemon The Movie: The Power of Us (or Everyone's Story in Japan), it was officially announced that Pokemon The Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution would be the third film of this alternate anime universe. The movie will be coming out in Japan in July 2019, though no trailers have been released yet. No Western release yet, though one will likely come after it's released in Japan.

One teaser image of the 150th Pokemon was released but aside from that, no other information was released on this third film. Serebii confirmed that the film will be directed by Kunihiko Yuyama & Motonori Sakakibara while the screenplay is by Takeshi Shudo, so that should be interesting. Aside from that, nothing else has been revealed.

For those unaware, Mewtwo Strikes Back was actually the very first Pokemon movie back in 1998, hence the addition of Evolution to the new movie's title. The film showed just how powerful Mewtwo was and even had an epic battle with Mew, which led to Ash's first on-screen death in Pokemon movies, the second of which came from I Choose You.

Don't expect a straight-up adaptation of the original Mewtwo Strikes Back since this continuity is different from the regular anime, as Ash hasn't met Misty or Brock in this timeline. He finally met up with Ho-Oh and Lugia so his "first" meeting with Mewtwo should be fun.

Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution will hit Japanese theatres on 12th July 2019.
