Pokemon Sword and Shield Were Actually Teased Back in 2018

Fans are currently excited for Pokemon Sword and Shield, the latest games in the series and the first official mainline entries on Nintendo Switch. There was a lot of speculation on what these games would be called and what the region would be based on, so fans were intrigued to see that it has a UK-based setting, hence Sword and Shield. Turns out that the titles for these games were actually teased last year and no one knew it.

As revealed by GameSpot, a Tweet from Pokemon director Junichi Masuda imitating a Link statue holding a sword and shield while using regular items instead of weapons. The fact that he was holding a sword and shield makes it obvious now, with the game already revealed, but there was nobody on Earth who thought that this was a teaser for these titles last year.

This reveal might make gamers more observant of these random tweets, though that will be difficult to do for too long. After all, these are still people who have lives and aren't thinking about video games 24/7.

Pokemon Sword and Shield are to be released in "late 2019." The games are set in a new region named Galar, which looks to be similar in appearance to Britain. The three starter creatures were shown off in Nintendo's Pokemon Direct presentation; they are a grass monkey named Grookey, a fire bunny named Scorbunny, and a sad water lizard, Sobble.
