Pokemon Sword & Shield: Why Some Pokemon Can't be Transferred to the New Games

Pokemon Sword & Shield went from being the most anticipated games in the series to the most hated after one particular announcement rubbed fans the wrong way: fans won't be able to bring some of their Pokemon from previous games. According to Game Freak, only some Pokemon can be transferred to the new Switch titles so if you're one of those people who transferred their monsters from previous titles, you are probably butthurt and petty.

If that last sentence sounded harsh it's because fans have blown this announcement out of proportion, claiming that this is the worst Pokemon game. It wouldn't be too surprising to know if some people are planning to boycott the Switch games since fandom has made people very petty in recent years.

As to why Game Freak decided to omit such a popular feature, here is what they told Japanese gaming website Famitsu (via Eurogamer):

"The total number of Pokémon has exceeded 1000, including new Pokemon and the various forms of existing Pokémon. As a result, it has become extremely difficult to make Pokemon with a new personality play an active part and to balance their compatibility. That is the reason for this decision, and we have decided that it is difficult to make all Pokémon appear in future works."
"This decision is personally sad. Of course, I wanted to be able to bring all Pokémon if I could do it, but it was also a decision that I had to make some day. In the end, I had no choice but to choose the quality."

Considering how Game Freak is always making individual changes to a lot of Pokemon, giving them new evolution forms, abilities, and attacks, as more games are made. This obviously wasn't an easy decision for them to make but those that just want to start in a new region and catch new Pokemon shouldn't be bothered by the news.

So stop being butthurt guys.

Pokemon Sword & Shield are scheduled for a November 15 release on Nintendo Switch.
