Like everyone else, Pokemon GO is celebrating Chinese New Year/Lunar New Year with something huge. Niantic has announced a Lunar New Year event that has already started and will be running until February 13, since they want you to celebrate Valentine's Day with a loved one. That, or they have a Valentine's Day event planned (which is highly likely).
Anyway, Niantic has confirmed that the following Pokemon will appear in the wild more due to the event: Rattata, Ekans, Mankey, Ponyta, Electabuzz, Dratini, Mareep, Miltank, Torchic, Poochyena, Spoink, and Buneary. Also, since it's Year of the Pig, Niantic has stated that lucky players could run into a Shiny Spoink, which is something any Pokemon fan can be excited for.

The event will also give players 2x more XP for catching and evolving Pokemon, which is another nice touch. This will encourage those that don't like the Pokemon that will be more active in the wild during the event to play the game since it means their avatar will get more XP. Can't complain about that, though some people will try to do that.
For a week-long event, this is a nice little bonus for Pokemon GO fans and should excite those that are planning to evolve the Pokemon that are mentioned above. Plus, a shiny version of an adorable Pokemon like Spoink is nothing to complain about.
Pokemon GO is available now on iOS and Android.
