Pokemon: Detective Pikachu 2 Finally Finds Its Director

Ever since the release of Detective Pikachu back in 2019, Pokemon fans have been wondering whether the film will ever get a sequel considering its box office success and solid reception from critics and the audience. We haven't heard any significant updates aside from it being in development.

However, in the past couple of weeks, reports have emerged that the sequel might officially move forward as Legendary Pictures affirmed in a recent statement that the project is still in the works which give hope to fans that the film is still happening at some point.

Now, the project has received another significant update as Deadline has reported that Portlandia co-creator Jonathan Kriel is currently in talks to direct the Detective Pikachu sequel. They also confirmed that Chris Galletta is working on the new draft of the screenplay, replacing Oren Uziel.

So far, no deal has been done yet with the cast, but insiders have claimed that Ryan Reynolds may return in the sequel as there are plans to include the actor in some capacity.

Krisel will be following in the footsteps of Rob Letterman, who helmed the first film. While he has no experience directing a big-budget film, he has done several works on television as he has directed shows such as Portlandia, Baskets, Kroll Show, and Moonbase 8. He is also attached to directing the new Sesame Street movie.

It is exciting to hear that the sequel may move forward very soon since they have found a director who can potentially spearhead the project into reality. This is a definitive sign that the sequel is still in the cards and Legendary Pictures is eager to do a follow-up to the hit Pokemon movie.

Let's wait and see how the development of this project will go and whether they will be able to bring back Reynolds, who is currently busy on several projects at the moment.
