Caesar's journey had been completed with War for the Planet of the Apes, and news has come out that the next film in the franchise is going to be a hard reboot. As it turns out, we shouldn't be too worried, because we should expect Caesar's legacy to continue.
This has been confirmed on Twitter by director Wes Ball:
Though the franchise wasn't perfect, I thought that Planet of the Apes was one of those more solid reboots to ever come out in recent memory. We don't know where Ball wants to take his story, but I guess we're going to get closer to the first Apes movie where humans crash land on the planet, only to discover that they were in the Earth's future all along.
At this point, the apes in the stories are still pretty likable, so we should expect some kind of downfall once they start evolving and getting closer to humans. But then again, I'm all up for the movie that would try to bring its own spin on the story. Let's just hope it makes sense, unlike Tim Burton's take where the entire planet that Wahlberg "returns" to is an ape civilization that's just modernized.
With the last ape trilogy doing a spin and making the main story about the apes, maybe this time we can follow the humans again; add a bit more mystery to the world rather than just have action unfold in an apocalyptic setting.
No release date has been set for the next Planet of the Apes movie.
