Pirates of the Caribbean’s Johnny Depp Fires Back at Cancel Culture: ‘No One is Safe’

I think we can all agree that Johnny Depp is, without a shadow of a doubt one of the most beloved stars in all of Hollywood and for the longest time, the screen legend has maintained a good public image and reputation amongst his fans and colleagues. This is why it comes as a massive shock to a lot of people that he's been involved in controversy over allegations of domestic violence.

As absurd as this may sound, the former star of the Pirates of the Caribbean and Fantastic Beasts franchises has also become the face of cancel culture, a trend that has wrongfully accused a lot of actors over the last couple of years, ruining their personal and professional careers in the process. Of course, Depp is arguably the biggest victim of them all after his personal issues with former spouse Amber Heard were made public.

Depp has continuously insisted on his innocence and many of his friends and family members have defended the actor from the allegations thrown at him. Now, he is finally speaking out against cancel culture and claims that nobody is safe from the movement. During his speech at San Sebastian Film Festival where he accepted a lifetime achievement award (via Deadline), Depp said that the movement is slowly being normalized when it shouldn't be.

He said: "It's so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe. It takes one sentence and there's no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It's not just me that this has happened to, it's happened to a lot of people. This type of thing has happened to women, men. Sadly at a certain point, they begin to think that it's normal. Or that it's them. When it's not."

What happened to arguably one of the finest actors in Hollywood is totally sad but I'm hopeful that when the dust finally settles, he'll be able to bounce back and eventually take back his place in Hollywood. Of course, it's still hard to tell at this point considering his legal battle with Amber Heard has yet to reach its climax but I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all ends. Justice must prevail.

Meanwhile, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is eyeing a 2022 release date.
