The Johnny Depp/Amber Heard drama continues as the $50 million lawsuit that the former Pirates of the Caribbean star filed against his ex-wife finally gets a trial date.

Depp had previously filed the defamation lawsuit against the Aquaman star after she penned an op-ed that appeared on The Washington Post which Depp believes led to him being fired from Pirates of the Caribbean. The Blast reports that the trial date is now set February 3, 2020 in Virginia. The judge has also set aside 12 days on the court calendar for the case.

However, there are some complications, as all things usually are with this couple. Heard's lawyers insist that the case should be taken to California while Depp's team states that the case belongs in Virginia because that's where the Post is printed. The judge has since taken the motion under advisement and said he would have an opinion "soon." This probably means that a decision will be made after the Fourth of July weekend.

In December 2018, Heard's op-ed referred to herself as "a public figure representing public abuse." Only a few days after its publication, Disney announced that Depp will no longer reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. By March, Depp had filed the lawsuit insisting that Heard had created "an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity for Ms. Heard and advance her career" on Depp's expense.

Depp is expected to return as Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. Heard is currently in negotiations to appear in CBS All Access' adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Stand.
