Pirates of the Caribbean Alum Keira Knightly Thought Film Would Be A “Disaster”

The Pirates of the Caribbean has proven to be one of Disney's successful live-action franchises however it seems like not everyone thought that the first film wouldn't do so well.

According to a claim by Love Actually director Richard Curtis in an op-ed for The Radio Times, The Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Nightly used to flippantly think that the film would "probably be a disaster."

"When we shot the film, I remember Keira Knightley saying that her next project was ‘some pirate thing – probably a disaster'. That turned out to be Pirates of the Caribbean," the director revealed, recalling his time working with the actress in the 2003 Love Actually.

However, the film turned out to be a success. Knightley stayed on as Elizabeth Swann for two more Pirates of the Caribbean films, Dead Man's Chest and At World's End, leaving before the franchise went on to its fourth installment, On Stranger Tides. Though it may seem quite shocking now that Knightley had little faith in the franchise, everyone else used to think that the Pirates of the Caribbean would flop since Disney based the entire thing on a theme park ride with the same name. Now everyone is excited to see the release of the franchise's fifth film, Dead Men Tell No Tales.
