Petition To Reinstate James Gunn As Director Of GOTG 3 Has Just Reached 200k Signatures

There was a whole lot of controversy when Disney decided to fire director James Gunn from the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The Mickey Mouse House decided to separate ways with the filmmaker after inappropriate and offensive tweets from fourteen years ago resurfaced in a smear campaign. Though some fans believe that the studio did the right thing distancing themselves from Gunn, the Guardians of the Galaxy cast have expressed outrage over the director's firing.

Marvel fans have even started a petition for Disney to reinstate the filmmaker as the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3.

Created at Change.org over the weekend, the petition to "Re-Hire James Gunn" has now gained more than 200 thousand signatures from fans, celebrities, and sympathizers. Though Chandler Edwards, the creator of the petition, admits that the movement probably won't change Disney's mind over the issue, "this could get Disney to realize the mistake they made and not do it again in the future."

However, the petition has gained two-thirds of its goal (300 thousand signatures) in just three days. If the petition gains further traction, Disney just might change its mind. Sure James Gunn's tweets might have sounded offensive, but the posts were made 14 years ago and the director has long since apologized for the jokes made in bad taste. Gunn has also long since changed, and the director says that the tweets no longer represent the kind of director and man that he is today.

What do you think? Does Gunn have a chance at returning to the director's seat of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?
