Peter Jackson is Excited for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series

Peter Jackson made history when he helmed the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but after the Hobbit films, it looks like he's finally done with J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy franchise. With LOTR having an upcoming series from Amazon, Jackson shares his excitement for the show and why he isn't really that catty about not being involved.

Talking to ComicBook, Jackson shares:

"I'm kind of looking forward to it. I was a guy who didn't get to see the Lord of the Rings like everybody else because I had to make it, so I'm looking forward to seeing somebody else's take on the Tolkien world."

For now, it's still unclear on what Amazon is planning to do with the series, but it's been said that it will not be a full-on reboot of Jackson's films. JD Payne and Patrick McKay are set to write the upcoming show, and this is what they had to say about their take:

"We are really excited to move right into the next phase of the development process, which is building the world. I think you can know that we're not remaking the movies, but we're also not starting from scratch. So, it'll be characters you love.

"It's not a remaking of the movies, and it's not a whole new thing. It's something in between. It's not, ‘Oh, it's Lord of the Rings but you don't recognize anything in it,' but it's not totally familiar to you either. So it's original."

It's rumored that Amazon is preparing to invest $1 billion on the show, making it one of the most expensive TV shows to be ever made. That's a pretty balls-y move for a fantasy series, but seeing that Game of Thrones did wonder for HBO, this new LOTR could probably be everyone's next Westeros fix after GoT ends next year.

We don't really know much about the series as well, but it's speculated that it will be about a young Aragorn before the timeline of the Fellowship of the Ring. Personally, I think that this series isn't necessary at all, but I thought the same about the upcoming Joker movie, and I've grown to be excited for that as time passed.

Let's hope Amazon's LOTR manages to impress.

Amazon's Lord of the Rings is expected to premiere sometime in 2020.
