Pennyworth Announces New Title Ahead of Its Season 3 Release

Ahead of its third season premiere and its move to HBO Max, Pennyworth has unveiled its first teaser trailer (via IGN) which gave fans their first look at what they can expect in the upcoming season now that it has moved from Epix (its network during the first two seasons) to the streamer.

However, the series has also changed its title ahead of its third season premiere. The Alfred Pennyworth prequel series is now officially called Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler. The new title emphasized the series as the origin story of the beloved Batman character.

It is interesting that the series changed its title despite already running for two seasons. It looks like it's just a marketing move of the streamer so that the viewers will know that the series is connected to a well-known Batman character.

However, there are fans online who have already ridiculed the new title as they thought that it was too on-point and felt that they used Batman's name to entice the audience despite the hero himself not appearing in the series at all. It would be interesting to see if they will be able to find a new audience now that it is moving to HBO Max.

The ten-episode third season of Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler's logline reads: "Season three of the psychological thriller begins after a five-year time jump: the civil war is over, and a cultural revolution has changed the world for better or worse – ushering in a new age of Super Heroes and Supervillains."

The series stars Jack Bannon, Ben Aldridge, Emma Paetz, Paloma Faith, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson, Ramon Tikaram, Harriet Slater, and Simon Manyonda. Bruno Heller, Matthew Patnick, Danny Cannon, and John Stephens serve as the executive producers.
