Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Trailer Unleashes New Terror on Los Angeles

The first trailer for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is finally here and it looks nothing like the original show. Nevertheless, the new Showtime series teases a strange connection to Vanessa Ives as a new terror is unleashed in Los Angeles.

The trailer opens with two detectives finding the corpse of a woman whose face has been carved to look like a Dia de Muertos skull. In addition to that, there's a cryptic message painted nearby: "You take our heart, we take yours." Soon, the detectives realize that there's more to this homicide than they expected.

There's a lot of tension in Los Angeles in 1938, especially among the Mexicans living in the city. However, there's a greater mystery that unfolds.

Natalie Dormer finally shows up and we see her in several different ages and looks. Who is she and why does she claim that she and her sister will be the only ones left in the end? The truth could finally be revealed later this year.

The synopsis for City of Angels reads as follows:

"A spiritual descendant of the original Penny Dreadful story set in Victorian-era London, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels opens in 1938 Los Angeles, a time and place deeply infused with social and political tension. When a grisly murder shocks the city, Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) and his partner Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane) become embroiled in an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles: from the building of the city's first freeways and its deep traditions of Mexican-American folklore, to the dangerous espionage actions of the Third Reich and the rise of radio evangelism. Before long, Tiago and his family are grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart."

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will premiere on Showtime on April 26.
