Warning: This article contains SPOILERS from the post-credits scene of Eternals.
During the first post-credits scene of Eternals, we saw the debut of Eros (played by Harry Styles) and Pip the Troll (voiced by Patton Oswalt) in the MCU which got fans very excited. We don't know what role are they going to play in the future of the franchise, but they are expected to have a bigger presence moving forward. Now, the creator of Pip the Troll has come forward and lauded the actor who voiced the character.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, renowned comic book artist and writer Jim Starlin, who created Pip the Troll (as well as some other popular Marvel characters), praised the casting of Oswalt on the role. He said, "Oh, yeah, I think he's perfect for it. I got a real kick out of his voicing over M.O.D.O.K. in that cartoon series. I watched the first one and I went, 'Eh, it's okay. And then I watched the second one, then I got hooked and just laughed my ass throughout the rest of it.' Now, Patton's always been a character actor who I think has got terrific range, and I think his voice is just perfect for it."
He also revealed that he's been lobbying Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige to introduce Pip the Troll in the MCU for years. He said, "Every time I've seen Kevin Feige over the last two years, I have been lobbying for Pip. And obviously, I have more influence than I thought [laughs]. But the truth of the matter is, they work on these things years ahead, so he's probably been chuckling up his sleeve every time in recent years when I've seen him and said, 'Gey, when are we going to see Pip?' And he'll mutter something because he knew it was coming all along."
It may be Oswalt's debut in the MCU, but he has been involved in the Marvel Universe before as he had a recurring role as the Koenigs in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and voiced M.O.D.O.K. in the Hulu animated series of the same name.
Fans were delighted when they heard Oswalt's voice in the film as he is a beloved actor who has done a lot of notable roles in both live-action and animation in the past. He is definitely a welcome addition to the franchise and fans are looking forward to seeing what's in store for Pip the Troll in the future. Starlin suggested that he would love to see the character in Guardians of the Galaxy which is possible since he is a cosmic character. We will find out soon enough when we'll get to see Eros and Pip again in the MCU.
Eternals is now showing in theaters.
