After months of speculating and teasing, Patrick Stewart made his return as Professor Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as part of Earth-838's Illuminati. However, it's a different variant from what we've seen in 20th Century Fox's X-Men films, but still, nonetheless, it's great to see him play the role again even though it's only for a short amount of time.

During a recent interview with Variety, Stewart was asked about his experience playing Charles Xavier again in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness to which he admitted that he was "unsure at first" about doing it before he was eventually convinced since it is going to be a different take on the character.

"Well, it was a day-and-a-half’s work. I was in a very different environment from the one that I had ever been in, in any of the X-Men movies. And just like Picard, I was grateful for it, because I could think refreshingly about who he was and how he related to others," Stewart said. "Just like Star Trek: Picard, I was a little unsure at first if it was a wise thing to do. Given that Logan had been such a powerful movie and we watched him die in Hugh Jackman’s arms. So having seen [Doctor Strange 2] on Monday night, I’m very happy and very proud that I’ve been part of that."

Regarding his new look on the character, especially with the classic yellow wheelchair, Stewart also admitted that he felt "dismayed" at first although it was still "fine" for him and "worked very well" despite the initial difficulties of using it.

"It was very unlike the Porsche that I was driving in the films. That was a very fast, very manipulative wheelchair," he said. "And when I first saw the monster that I was going to be driving in this one, I was dismayed. But it was fine. It worked very well. I had to bring it to a stop before a flight of stairs. That was my only concern, was that I would somehow get out of control and go all the way down the stairs in this thing! But it was a very, very different world from the X-Men movies, with references here and there, of course. But I was very, very happy."

When asked about the possibility of him playing the character again, he responded, "Yeah. There may be. You know, the whole X-Men comic series is so huge, so vast, there might be an opportunity in which he comes back. We’ll see."

It is great to hear Stewart's comments regarding his much-awaited return as the character in the recent MCU film and showed his enthusiasm for playing him again. In my experience watching it, when he showed up in the film, he was met by roaring applause and cheers from the audience which indicate that fans were delighted to see him play the role again.

Given the multiverse aspect, there is a chance that we will see him again in the future. Let's just wait and see if Marvel will eventually bring him back again in some capacity.
