Patrick Stewart is Hoping to Work Again with Logan Filmmaker James Mangold

Logan might have been a swan song for Hugh Jackman's James Howlett, however, it seems like Patrick Stewart would want to work with the film's director again, James Mangold.

Speaking in an interview with Variety for a feature discussing Stewart's brand new Star Trek series, Picard, the actor revealed how much he wants to work with the filmmaker again.

"I can't wait to work with James (Mangold) again," the legendary Star Trek actor told the entertainment news outlet.

Apparently, Stewart is open to any kind of film with Mangold, whether the project is associated with the X-Men or not.

"Hugh and I were so thrilled when the last thing we did for ‘X-Men' was ‘Logan,'" the actor mentioned during his interview with the publication, "It was the best ‘X-Men' experience we both had because we were the same characters but their world had been blown apart." Steward added as an aside, "‘Next Generation' didn't end like that. In fact, our last movie, ‘Nemesis,' was pretty weak."

Discussing some of the projects that he's done over the years, Stewart reveals how he wants even more challenging work in the future.

"God, this is going to be difficult to say. It's wonderful work, but it's not enough. The challenge is great, but I want something bigger," Steward said.

It'd definitely be interesting to see Stewart work on films outside of the X-Men and Star Trek franchises. The actor has worked on films outside of these big properties before, appearing in films like the 2019 Charlies Angels, Macbeth, and A Christmas Carol. It would be interesting to see the actor in even more challenging roles in the future.

Star Trek: Picard is set to premiere on January 23, 2020, on CBS All Access.
