Netflix isn’t slowing down when it comes to live-action anime adaptations. Today, Netflix revealed the April release date of the Korean Parasyte live-action series.

This project was announced by Netflix way back in 2022. It may have taken a while, but the series premiere was finally announced alongside the release of a new key visual.

While fans will need to wait a bit longer for a trailer, the show’s main cast has been confirmed.

Netflix is no stranger to live-action anime adaptations. Last year, Netflix released the live-action One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho series, with the former being an international production and the latter being done mainly in Japan.

This latest one is a bit different as it’s a Korean series, though it’s not the first of its kind. After all, there have been Korean adaptations of hit manga like the 2011 City Hunter drama or Park Chan-Wook’s Oldboy.

For Parasyte, the film features the following cast members:

  • Jeon So-Nee (Min Jae-Yi in Our Blooming Youth) as Jeong Su-In
  • Koo Kyo-Hwan (Han Hee-Seong in Kill Boksoon) as Seol Kang-Woo
  • Lee Jung-Hyun (Min-Jeong in Peninsula) as Leader of The Grey

Alongside these three, Netflix also confirmed that Kwon Hae-Hyo (The Vanished) and Kim In-Kwon (Tazza: The Hidden Card) are part of the cast in undisclosed roles.

On top of its cast, which features popular Korean actors, the series is also promising as it is directed by Yeon Sang-Ho, the director of the hit Train to Busan.

Fans of Yeon's work won’t have to wait much longer as Netflix revealed that the Parasyte live-action drama will be released worldwide on April 5, 2024.

The show’s release date was announced in a new key visual that shows the protagonist being the host of the mysterious parasite. In the background are other characters who the aliens have taken over.

As the visual implies, this live-action series’ story will be markedly different from the original manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki.

How Does the Parasyte Live Action Differ from the Original?

This new series is still based on Iwaaki’s original manga, but instead of following Shinichi Izumi, this show will follow Jeong Su-In, a girl who becomes the host of a parasite but manages to keep control of her body.

Based on the characters’ names, this series is likely going to be set in Korea instead of the original Fukuyama setting.

Netflix will likely share more info as well as the series' official trailer in the coming weeks and months.
