Paramount Explains Why Crowdfunded Star Trek Film Infringes On Their Copyright

Back in December, Paramount Pictures and CBS filed a lawsuit against the Alec Peters and the other producers of the crowdfunded Star Trek fan film, Axanar. After they sued the producers, who made a short film with the aim of creating a studio-quality feature in the year 2245 — before Captain James T. Kirk took command, when the war with the Klingon Empire almost broke the Federation apart — the defendants brought a dismissal motion that faulted the Star Trek right-holders with not providing enough specificity about which of the thousands of Star Trek-related copyrights are being infringed.

On Friday, Paramount detailed which parts violated copyrights: Vulcan appearance, gold-shirt uniforms (shown above), Federation logo, specific names of characters, organizations, and planets, the element of stardate, the element of phasers, the element of beaming up via transporters, the element of warp drive, and the Klingon language.
