Paramount Developing A Live-Action Anime Film Adaptation Of Your Name With J.J. Abrams

It looks like Hollywood just won't stop trying to make live-action film adaptations of popular anime series ad anime movies.

Paramount Pictures is working on developing a live-action film adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's phenomenal anime movie, Your Name, and the studio has already brought in J. J. Abrams as its director.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today, announcing that Paramount Studios has put Abrams in charge of its Your Name live-action film adaptation. The studio has also tapped Arrival's Oscar-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer to write the screenplay for the project.

Shinkai has just recently commented on the adaptation and the Japanese animator hopes that Hollywood filmmaking might lead to new possibilities for Your Name.

"Your Name is a film created with the innate imaginations of a Japanese team and put together in a domestic medium. When such a work is imbued with Hollywood filmmaking, we may see new possibilities that we had been completely unaware of. I am looking forward to the live-action film with excited anticipation."

Of course, anime fans and otakus will most likely express major concerns regarding Paramount's announcement. Hollywood has yet to deliver a successful live-action anime film adaptation. Rupert Sander's Ghost in the Shell bombed so hard, it actually lost DreamWorks ad Paramount a lot of money. Netflix's Death Note movie was met with harsh reviews from fans and critics.

Hopefully, Paramount will learn to tread lightly and avoid white-washing controversies for this adaptation of Your Name.
