Overwatch 2 Does the Impossible and Adds a Story Mode

Well, folks, it happened; Overwatch 2, the gaming industry's second-worst kept secret next to Diablo IV, has been officially announced for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The sequel is set to continue what made the first Overwatch so great while also adding a ton of new modes in the process. To the surprise of pretty much everyone there, Overwatch 2 will have a Story Mode.

Your eyes aren't deceiving you, Blizzard will actually release a game that will detail its lore to the player through gameplay. What a novel concept! In all seriousness, the fact that so many people defended the original Overwatch, calling it political and filled with character, always rang hollow since you could never really know these characters or witness their stories, which was often relegated to tie-in comics and novels.

Now that the sequel will actually detail its lore to the player, albeit in a mode that still can't be played solo, we can officially call Overwatch 2 "a game." It's not yet clear what the story mode will be about but we do know that it involves a new team of Overwatch that was formed by Winston and Tracer, who will be joined by other aspiring heroes.

Basically, it's the opening animated cutscene of Overwatch but now with gameplay that will actually tell a story. Seriously, how Overwatch managed to last this long with its fans is beyond me.

Overwatch 2 does not have a release date as of this writing.
