Fans may still be eagerly awaiting Overlord Season 5, but they’re in for a treat as Ainz and company are back with a new anime, albeit one that’s unexpected. That’s because Kadokawa released a special Overlord and The Eminence in Shadow crossover mini-episode recently.
This special crossover was initially revealed as an April Fools' joke earlier this year. It seemed that Kadokawa was serious as the crossover between the two popular isekai titles was released online yesterday.
Instead of being a serious episode though, this anime special features a Chibi or super deformed style, similar to Kadokawa’s previous isekai crossover.
Overlord Featured in Another SD Project
Overlord is a popular isekai anime that has been ongoing for years now. Aside from four anime seasons, the series has also been featured in Kadokawa’s Isekai Quartet, a hilarious series with a super deformed (or SD) style.
Aside from Overlord, Isekai Quartet also features other Kadokawa titles, including KonoSuba, Re:Zero, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil. Characters from these four shows appeared in the first season.
Thanks to its success, the anime was renewed for another season. This follow-up featured more characters from shows like The Rising of the Shield Hero and Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered but Overly Cautious.
The second season was again a big hit, enough that a sequel was released. Instead of being a new season though, the sequel came in the form of an anime movie titled Another World.
This film was released in Japan in July 2022. Fans outside of Japan were able to watch the film in December of that year as it was streamed by Crunchyroll.

The Eminence in Shadow x Overlord SD Crossover Released on YouTube for Free
From the looks of it, we might get another Isekai Quartet season as a special SD crossover between Overlord and The Eminence in Shadow was released.
This mini-episode is 10 minutes long – around the same length as an Isekai Quartet episode.
Despite not being connected story-wise, this crossover features the same SD style that fans should be familiar with.
The episode is available to stream on YouTube, though it doesn’t have English subtitles.
Even though it lacks subtitles, it’s still worth watching for fans of both shows. After all, it features some hilarious hijinks as Ainz and Cid swap bodies.
In the meantime, fans can also enjoy The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 as this latest season gets new episodes weekly.
