Original Jean Grey Hopes X-Men: Dark Phoenix Gives The Saga Its Due

Marvel fans might have felt a little bit underwhelmed by 21st Century Fox's very first trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but original Jean Grey actress Famke Janssen still has high hopes for the upcoming X-Men movie.

Speaking in an interview with Inverse, Janssen decided to open up about the Dark Phoenix arc's reboot, saying that she hoped that the iconic comic book story by John Byrne and Chris Claremont finally gets a faithful recreation thanks to Fox's Dark Phoenix installment.

"I'm glad that the Dark Phoenix saga is finally getting its due," Janssen told the publication during the interview. "When we tackled it in The Last Stand, it wasn't given enough time. I remember hearing from fans after we finished the film that they were disappointed that an enormous moment in the comics was given so little screen time. I'm happy for them to give Phoenix the due that she deserves."

While the Dark Phoenix arc is getting a full film from Fox, Marvel fans have other issues with Dark Phoenix. One of the fanbase's major concerns is Jean Grey itself with many worrying that Simon Kinberg's treatment of the film might not reflect the actual story that many have come to love from the comics.

Of course, a full film is a whole lot better than just having bits and pieces of the arc. Back in 2006, in X-Men: The Last Stand, the film had very little to do with Jean and her new lease on life after her death in X2: X-men United. Hopefully, Dark Phoenix does better.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix premieres June 7, 2019.
