Original Ant-Man Director Edgar Wright Says He Will Never Watch the Film

There was a time when director Edgar Wright was attached to direct Ant-Man. But a few months before production was set to start, he left due to creative differences and was replaced by Peyton Reed, who would end up directing the entire trilogy.

During a recent AMA session on Reddit, Wright was asked if he has gotten a chance to watch Ant-Man. He responded, "I decided not to watch it so I would never have to tell people what I thought of it." However, he did share that he almost watched the film some time ago, "That said, once I was on a plane and a guy next to me was watching it and that was a bit awkward."

It is understandable why Wright will never see the film given his history with the project, which he was attached to for several years before his exit. It's difficult from his point of view to see something that he started that is now being taken care of by a different team. It is fair enough to say that Reed did a great job on directing the Ant-Man films and he was able to turn the character into one of the staples in the franchise.

You can't help but wonder about what a Wright-directed Ant-Man would have looked like. Given his stylistic approach on films like Baby Driver and Hot Fuzz, there's no doubt that it would be a terrific film that would be yet again very different from the rest of the MCU. But it's just a what-if question that we can just ponder and we will never know the answer.
