It looks like Marvel Studios' head honcho Kevin Feige is going to receive the very first Marty and Leah Sklar Creative Visionary Award.
According to a new report by Variety, the Ryman Arts Board has decided to give the Marty and Leah Sklar Creative Visionary Award to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige for his creative vision in directing the decade-long development of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recognizing Feige's abilities as a visionary in bringing relatable superheroes to the big screen, the board has decided that the Marvel Studios head would be the first recipient of its award.
"The Ryman Arts Board established the Marty & Leah Sklar Creative Visionary Award to honor Marty's memory and to celebrate the legacy of two amazing founders of our organization," Ryman Arts Board president and president and creative executive of the Hettema Group, Phil Hettema, said in a statement.
"We are thrilled that the first recipient of the award, Kevin Feige, embodies the aspiration of the award so completely. Kevin has reimagined an entire universe of storytelling and introduced us to thrilling new worlds through his creative leadership and vision."
It's no surprise that the Rhyman Arts Board decided to present the Award to Feige. Hollywood industry analysts weren't certain that Marvel's plan to build a shared universe would work, however, after a decade's worth of comic book movies, Marvel has become one of the most successful cinematic universes in history. In those ten years, Feige has guided Marvel towards more than $17 billion in box office receipts right after the MCU became the first to cross $5 billion threshold at the domestic box office market.
The culmination of the franchise, Avengers: Infinity War, gathered more than $2.04 billion at the global box office during its cinematic run earlier this year.
Infinity War's sequel, Avengers 4, is slated for release May 3, 2019.
