Optimus Prime Movie and Animated Transformers Film in Development

Bumblebee had just recently come out, but it looks like the film is just a first of several Transformers spinoffs. An animated movie is said to be in the works, plus another solo film with Optimus Prime front and center.

Producer Lorenzo diBonaventura tells Metro, "We actually have an animated movie in the works that will tell the whole Cybertron mythology. The fans will love that… We're trying to figure out an [Optimus Prime solo movie]"

Seeing the positive reception of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, maybe an animated Transformers movie could work. Personally, I'm actually interested to see a movie with just the robots and none of the humans. As for the Optimus film, diBonaventura continues:

"It will be hard with Optimus, he is always right, very stoic and is a man of few words … It is kind of like saying, ‘Let's do a movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi?' But how much is there to say about Obi-Wan? It is not so easy."

For now, it looks like the producers are just waiting for the success of Bumblebee. Admittedly, the movie is kind of on the ropes seeing that it released next to heavy-hitters like Aquaman and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Critical reception for the movie has been great though, and a lot of people think that it's the right step for the Transformers franchise moving forward.

Will Bumblebee end up a success? I guess we'll just have to wait and see to find out.
