Ever since the series premiered on Netflix, the show instantly became a pop culture sensation with its iconic retro themes commemorated all over the world. And now that the fan-beloved Stranger Things is approaching its two-part thrilling finale, fans are probably wondering what's next for the franchise.

In an e-mail interview with Variety, the Duffer brothers opened up about doing a spinoff for the Netflix hit, revealing that they already have an idea and it won't be anything like the original series. Although the creators are still in writing development, they are certain it would surprise everyone, except Finn Wolfhard, who already has an idea of what the spin-off will be all about. The Duffer brothers wrote:

“We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super excited about … but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet, much less written it," We think everyone — including Netflix — will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different. But somehow Finn Wolfhard — who is one crazy smart kid — correctly guessed what it was going to be about. But aside from Finn, no one else knows!”

It would certainly be intriguing to see this "very, very different" spin-off concept that the Duffer brothers are teasing about. As revealed from the trailers, Stranger Things 4 already looked distinct compared to the previous seasons, and it appears that fans are set to see the show's darkest theme yet.

While it's too early to guess what the spin-off will be all about, fans would surely get an idea when the two-part finale hit the streaming service this weekend. For now, only Finn Wolfhard knows.

Stranger Things Season 4 Part 1 will premiere on May 27, 2022, and the second volume five weeks later on July 1, 2022.
