This latest trailer for the game-based anime shows off some action-packed scenes featuring the protagonist Miyamoto Musashi whose appearance is based on a legendary Japanese actor.

The Onimusha anime is being made by Sublimation, the studio behind Netflix’s Dragon’s Dogma anime. Much like Dragon’s Dogma, this new series is based on a game series of the same name by Capcom.

Onimusha was originally revealed back in September 2022 at Netflix’s TUDUM event. Now, a new trailer has been released that shows off brand-new footage.

The trailer is our best look yet at the show’s stylized scenes as it’s three minutes long, enough to show plenty of fight scenes featuring the legendary ronin, Miyamoto Musashi. You can check it out here:

At the helm of this anime is Takashi Miike, the prolific Japanese director who has directed stylized samurai films, demented horror flicks, and even the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure live-action movie.

Miike may be known more for live-action, but directing Onimusha is a perfect fit. After all, he has several acclaimed samurai films under his belt, including 13 Assassins as well as the manga-based Blade of the Immortal.

The new trailer also mentions at the beginning that the show features Toshiro Mifune, the legendary Japanese actor of Seven Samurai and Yojimbo fame.

Of course, Mifune isn’t part of the cast as he passed away over 25 years ago. The main character Miyamoto Musashi’s appearance is modeled after Mifune given that he starred in numerous iconic samurai films.

Voicing Musashi is the popular Japanese VA Akio Otsuka. He is best known for voicing Rider in Fate/Zero, All For One in My Hero Academia, and Blackbeard in One Piece.

Another notable name involved in the series is the Italian rock band Måneskin. The band performs the show’s opening titled The Loneliest.

The Onimusha anime will be released globally on November 2, exclusively on Netflix. For now, there’s no word yet on how many episodes the anime will have.
