Yes, the One-Punch Man movie is still in the works, though two new writers are on the project. As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon and writer Heather Anne Campbell are rewriting the One Punch Man live-action movie script.
It has been nearly two years since the last announcement regarding the movie, and while it’s still not in the filming phase, there’s hope that it won’t get canceled like many other anime live-action adaptations.
One-Punch Man Live-Action Film Still in the Works
The One-Punch Man live-action film was announced back in April 2020, and at the time, Columbia Pictures revealed that Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinker (of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) were writing the script.
Its next update came in June 2022, as it was confirmed that Fast & Furious director Justin Lin is directing the movie, and it was originally set to enter production later that year.
Since then, no update has been given about it. This isn’t too surprising, as there are also lots of other anime live-action adaptations that struggled to get off the ground, including the My Hero Academia film that’s still in the works.
Finally, a new update was shared recently, confirming that the film’s script is being rewritten.

Rick and Morty Co-Creator and Writer Tapped to Rewrite One-Punch Man Movie Script
The Hollywood Reporter recently shared that Justin Lin is directing a new crime thriller for Amazon MGM titled Stakehorse.
At the end of the report was confirmation that Justin Lin is still on board the One-Punch Man movie.
There, it was also mentioned that Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon and writer Heather Anne Campbell are rewriting the script.
Given their comedy chops, it makes sense why they would be tapped to work on the film’s script. After all, One-Punch Man is considered by many as a subversion of the battle shonen genre.
Harmon also has a connection to Lin, as the latter directed a couple of episodes for Community, the comedy series created by Harmon.

When Will the One-Punch Man Live-Action Movie Be Released? Our Predictions
As the film’s script is still being rewritten, we likely won’t see it released anytime soon. If it does start production later this year, the earliest estimate for its release would be in mid-late 2025.
That is, of course, if it ever gets to the next phase of production. After all, many anime live-action adaptations have gotten stuck in development for years.
