One Piece Live-Action TV Show Will Cost Millions Per Episode

Last month, Hollywood's One Piece live-action TV show was announced, and fans of the anime/manga franchise have mix reactions to the idea. During One Piece's 20th anniversary, franchise creator Eiichiro Oda signed a deal for his series to be adapted into a live-action TV show. Now, it looks like the show's production will reportedly have a huge budget.

As Anime News Network reports, the live-action One Piece TV show will cost up to $9-10 million per episode.

Tomorrow Studios is backing the project, with Marty Adelestein serving as producer for the series. Adelestein seemed to have confirmed this large budget in a recent interview.

"I've been a fan of One Piece for the past twenty years. To be entrusted with such an important work by Shueisha and Mr. Oda is an honor," Adelestain said. "It's with great enthusiasm that I will give my all to make One Piece a success. I think that this project could set a new record for the most expensive drama series in TV history."

You can read Viz Media's description of One Piece below:

As a child, Monkey D. Luffy dreamed of becoming King of the Pirates. But his life changed when he accidentally gained the power to stretch like rubber—at the cost of never being able to swim again! Years later, Luffy sets off in search of the One Piece, said to be the greatest treasure in the world…

Without concept art and footage released yet, it's still hard to picture how accurate the live-action show will be to the anime series. Hopefully, the TV series won't run as long as the anime series.
