The One Piece live-action series is out now, though that should be obvious to most anime fans given how much it’s being promoted by Netflix. Aside from a likely huge marketing budget, Netflix revealed that the One Piece live-action series had a higher budget than Game of Thrones.

This fact was revealed by Netflix Germany through its official website. There, it was revealed that One Piece had a bigger budget per episode than HBO’s huge fantasy hit.

One Piece’s budget goes to show how much Netflix is banking on this to be their next big hit.

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is easily the biggest manga right now. After all, it is the bestselling manga of all time with millions of fans across the world.

Given this, it’s not too surprising that Netflix is banking on their live-action adaptation to be their next big original. This was confirmed last year when Netflix said that they would give One Piece the Stranger Things treatment.

Over the past few weeks, Netflix has been true to what they said as the series has gotten a ton of promotion, including a series of fan events across the world.

Interestingly, the show is different from pretty much any other live-action anime adaptation out there as many fans are excited for it.

This is surprising given that almost all other live-action adaptations like this are met with skepticism from fans.

What probably helped in getting fans excited is the heavy involvement of Oda, who has been with the series every step of the way.

Aside from the huge marketing spree for the series, Netflix has also opened up its wallet for One Piece as the show has a huge budget per episode.

Specifically, Netflix Germany revealed through its Netflixwoche website that each episode had a budget of over EUR 16 million (around USD 17.27 million).

For comparison, Game of Thrones' final season had a budget of EUR 13.7 million (around USD 14.79 million) per episode.

Of course, there are other shows with bigger budgets at this point, but this still shows how huge Netflix’s investment is in the series.

Will it be worth it? We’ll find out over the next few days as the One Piece live-action series only started streaming today on Netflix.
