One Piece Episode 1,013 Recap

Sanji attempts to run away from Black Maria and her group, but he's stuck in her web. Meanwhile, Luffy is still on his way to the rooftop. Jimbei prepares for his face-off with Who's Who, one of the Tobi Roppo who knows that Jimbei was once a Warlord of the Sea.

Yamato treats Shinobu's injuries, covering her with bandages. He proceeds to tell her and Momonosuke about Ace, who happens to be his friend. He tells them that Ace was the one who taught him how to live.

Ace and the Spade Pirates were on a mission to save kidnapped children in Onigashima. Upon entering the castle, Yamato attacked them. Ace and Yamato fought while the other pirates set the children free from their prison cells.

Yamato tells Ace that Kaido is out on an expedition, so none of the high-ranking officers are currently on the island. In the middle of their fight, the two have a conversation, and Ace notices that Yamato's wrists have shackles on them.

While the rest of his crew sails out to return the kidnapped children to the mainland, Ace stays behind. He and Yamato eventually become friends. Yamato talks about how much he hates Kaido and how he deprived him of his freedom.

Ace says one can't choose their parents, but they are still free to decide what they really want to do in life. Ace helped Yamato realize what his goals are, which is to go out to sea and go on an adventure.

While Ace was telling Yamato about what was happening around the world, he also mentioned Luffy a lot. Ace says that Luffy will be a powerful pirate someday.

Elsewhere, Nami was surprised to find out that Otama also knew Ace. Otama was sad after finding out about Ace's death from Luffy, who announced it out of the blue. However, Nami explains that Ace's passing was an extremely difficult event for Luffy.
