One Piece Chapter 1,044 Recap
Luffy has lost, but it seems like he's still conscious. Momonosuke and Yamato are surprised to think that Luffy is Joy Boy. Meanwhile, other people also sense Luffy's presence as well, realizing he's still alive.
On the other hand, the Five Elders are having a discussion at Marijoa. It turns out that the World Government has been trying to get its hands on the Gum-Gum Fruit (Gomu Gomu no Mi), but they haven't been successful in the past 800 years.
The Five Elders mention that it looks like the Devil Fruit is trying to run away from them, which is understandable since Zoan Devil Fruits have their own will. It is revealed that another name for the Gum-Gum Fruit is the Zoan-type Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Type, Model: Nika. They also mention the Warrior of Liberation — referring to Nika, the Sun God.
Meanwhile, Orochi tries to convince Hiyori to save him and get him out of the rubble. However, Hiyori talked about her father and expressed her hatred and anger for Orochi.
