Following a slew of Spider-Man films, Marvel looks to be ready for a new superheroine!

Deadline reports that Booksmart filmmaker Olivia Wilde has closed a deal to direct and develop a secret Marvel project following a female character. Though it's yet to be confirmed, insiders point to the movie being centered on Spider-Woman.

Wilde will co-write the superhero film with Booksmart partner Katie Silberman, along with Amy Pascal who's set to produce. Rachel O'Connor will serve as the executive producer with Gary Spinelli having penned a previous draft of the script.

Wilde was offered the Marvel movie earlier this year. Said to be a "top priority" at the studio, the filmmaker reportedly came close to passing on the project at one point because of her busy schedule. However, the "idea of having a chance to launch her own female superhero was too hard to pass up."

Spider-Woman's character has a wide range of possibilities, as the title has been held by multiple characters. From Jessica Drew's introduction in the late '70s, Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy have taken up the moniker since then. Should the project center on the character, it's still unclear which version of Spider-Woman will be featured in the said movie.

Sony's second female-led Marvel movie is yet to have a release date but fans ought to be excited to see what Olivia Wilde comes up with.
