Obi-Wan Kenobi: Lucasfilm Boss Addresses the Possibility of Doing a Second Season

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi finally arrived on Disney+ and fans are currently celebrating the return of the Ewan McGregor as the titular Jedi. Hours into the release of the episodes, the responses have been mostly positive and it looks like the series is destined to be another hit for Lucasfilm and Disney+. While we know that it's going to be a one-off event, there are still some who are wondering whether it will have another second season.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was asked about the possibility of doing a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi despite being a limited series to which she revealed that they are playing the idea of possibly doing another installment.

"It’s certainly something we talk about," she said. "Mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan had an incredible time. Hayden [Christensen] had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we’d have to really answer the question why?"

McGregor also chimed in and said that he would also be open to doing a second season even though they only intended it as a limited series.

"It was made as a one-off limited series. And in a way, it does do what I wanted it to do in terms of bridging a story between III and IV and bringing me closer to Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan in A New Hope," he said. "And so, for sure, that’s true. Would I like to make another one? Yeah, I would like to make another one."

Right now, we don't have the definitive answer yet whether Obi-Wan Kenobi will have a second season. Of course, we will never know until the series ends once we find out how they'll end the story and if it sets up a possibility of the story that they can explore in the potential second season although we do know that it's supposed to possibly lead to the events of A New Hope.
