Obi-Wan Kenobi Director Talks About Possible Season 2

Fans were very excited about the upcoming Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi when it was first announced. With two months left until its release, fans can’t help but wonder if there will be a follow-up season, since the director of the series, Deborah Chow, noted that the narrative was already conceived as a complete journey. The president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, also addresses the subject, even echoing the remarks made by CHow, however, she didn’t entirely rule out the possibility of having a follow-up season.

"It was definitely conceived as a limited series, and it is one big story with a beginning, middle, and end," Deborah Chow said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly about a possible second season for the series. "The approach has always been that it is one full story."

Kathleen Kennedy also noted that the most likely reason for more adventures in this series would be because of how much the crew and the casts enjoyed bringing the project to life.

"It's certainly something we talk about," Kennedy admitted the possibility of having a second season, pointing out that it is “mainly because everybody came together and had such an incredible time. Ewan [McGregor] had an incredible time. Hayden [Christensen] had an incredible time. So certainly from that point of view, everybody involved would love to see this not end. But we have to really spend our time asking the question: Why would we do it? If we were to decide to do anything more with the Obi-Wan character, we'd have to really answer the question why?"

Based on all of their statements, it seems as though the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series was approached similarly to The Book of Boba Fett, with its future being dependent on the reception of the series.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi stars Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker, Sung Kang, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Moses Ingram, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Simone Kessell, Kumail Nanjiani, and Benny Safdie. Bonnie Piesse and Joel Edgerton are also set to return to reprise their roles from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Star Wars: Obi-wan Kenobi series is set to be released on Disney+ on May 25, 2022.
