Obi-Wan Kenobi Director Sets the Record Straight on Darth Maul Rumors

Star Wars fans were utterly disappointed when reports circulated last month that the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series would have featured the live-action return of iconic villain Darth Maul. Turns out, the menacing Sith Lord was originally intended to be part of the show with Ray Park reprising the role but Lucasfilm ultimately scrapped the idea.

The original news came from The Hollywood Reporter and considering they're one of the most trusted news outlets out there, many people bought into their scoop. However, the show's director Deborah Chow is now offering some clarity regarding the Maul rumors and according to her, that's all made up.

Speaking with Total Film (via The Direct), Chow has once and for all set the record straight regarding the Darth Maul reports that have been spreading like wildfire all over the internet. According to her, Maul was never considered for the show which is all the more surprising despite the baddie sharing a rich history with Obi-Wan.

Chow reveals: "As long as I’ve been involved, we’ve never had Darth Maul in any of it. Dave [Filoni] did a beautiful job of telling that story already."

Chow has been involved with the show's development since 2020 so of course, her remarks about Maul's rumored entry to the show hold a ton of weight. However, it's worth noting that when the show was being conceptualized, the director wasn't in the picture yet so it's still possible that the initial creative plans for the show might have actually called for a Maul involvement.

The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin streaming on May 27th, exclusively on Disney+.
