Austin, Texas-based production company Rooster Teeth (Red vs. Blue, RWBY, Lazer Team) has dropped its new trailer for its first dramatic sci-fi series titledDay 5.
The new trailer is packed with intense sequences of people who suffers from an affliction where they die upon sleeping. There’s a deadly contagion affects the unconscious.
Jake (Jesse C. Boyd), and addict, is saved by a drug bender by chance. He then ventures out into the streets not knowing that the most of the world’s population has died while sleeping in their beds. Jake tries to defeat sleepless fatigue, as well as imminent hallucinations from lack of sleep. The addict teams up with a teenager (Walker Satterwhite), an overnight doctor (Stephanie Drapeau), and a red-eye pilot (Davi Jay) to find the source and a cure for the epidemic.
This kind of reminds me of The X-Files’ 4th episode in its second season titled Sleepless, where Mulder and his then partner, Alex Krycek, investigate a case where soldiers who underwent sleep deprivation experiments became invincible.
I don’t know how sleep deprivation will work for the characters in Day 5, but it seems to me that they will eventually go crazy, with no superpowers. Nevertheless, the plot seems pretty interesting.
