Nightwing Director Promises Dick Grayson Won’t Be Like The Lego Batman’s Robin

Nightwing might be under the direction of Chris Mckay but the filmmaker says the DC movie won't be like The Lego Batman Movie.

Mckay directed the computer-animated superhero comedy movie and while the film received a lot of positive reviews, fans felt a bit disappointed by the filmmaker's kooky fanboyish portrayal of Robin. With Mckay assigned to helm Nightwing, fans started worrying that the director would use the same portrayal on Dick Grayson in Nightwing.

Taking to Twitter, Mckay addressed fans concern, saying that he would make sure to stay true to the original depiction of the character in the upcoming DC films.

For those who haven't seen The Lego Batman Movie, Robin was portrayed as a precocious young orphan idolizing Batman like a little fanboy. While it was a cute depiction in The Lego Batman, it wouldn't work in Nightwing. Exaggerated comedic characterization wouldn't work on a character with a backstory like Dick Grayson.

Good thing that McKay's making sure to follow that he's being true to the source material.

Yesterday the director announced an open casting call for the film, though it's very likely Nightwing's role might still fall on an established actor in the Hollywood industry.

Nightwing doesn't have a release date just yet, but we'll be there to let everyone know as soon as we get word.
