Nier: Automata Anime Synopsis

The Nier: Automata anime is set in a machine-driven dystopian world where a proxy war is taking place between human-made androids and a machine army of invaders from another world.

The YorHa androids are commanded from a bunker base in orbit above Earth to fight alongside the pre-YorHa androids, also known as the Resistance, to reclaim the world overrun by powerful machines.

These androids are known as YorHa forces, and they have distinct personalities that distinguish them from one another despite the fact that they lack both emotions and real names.

The main protagonist of the anime, the combat android 2B, is a member of this group, along with the male scanner android 9S and the obsolete attack android A2.

They are aided by two floating box-like robots, Pod 042 and Pod 153, which serve as their ranged weapons.

Will the Nier: Automata Anime Be the Same as the Video Game?

The affix in the title indicates that Nier: Automata Ver 1.1a will be distinct from the original game. In fact, Yoko Taro, the original game's director, explained that copying the game's story would not make the anime's storyline interesting.

This shift in focus is consistent with the vision of the anime's director, Ryouji Masuyama.

Yoko Taro has long supported Masuyama's vision for the anime, stating that fans should not be concerned about the anime completely disregarding the original game.

As of writing, there is no information yet on what these changes would be for the anime, but one thing is certain: the Nier: Automata anime will follow a different storyline.
