It looks like Nicolas Cage has given up on his hopes of playing Warner Brother's Man of Steel, this time turning his eye towards Superman's nemesis, the brilliant Lex Luthor.
Speaking in a recent interview with The Guardian, Cage decided to open up about the idea of being DC's next Superman, saying that while he'd love to, his "Superman days are long gone." Seeing the National Treasure star seem down and out, the publication then suggested that Cage could probably play a villain in a future DC Extended Universe installment.
"Oh, that would be GREAT! I'd make a great Lex Luthor," Cage said, a shiny lightbulb popping right above his head.
Cage might have a shot at being Lex. Though Jesse Eisenberg says that he still hopes to return as Luthor in the DCEU, Warner Brothers could still recast the role. They could probably hire Cage if they needed a significantly older version of the DC baddie.
Though Cage has had his fair share of bad movie projects, the actor has also proven his acting skills before, winning an Oscar for his performance in Leaving Las Vegas.
Not only that, but Cage is a lifelong Superman fan – in fact, back in the 90s the Ghost Rider star had been cast as Clark Kent in Superman Lives.
Tim Burton was supposed to direct the film and Kevin Smith was supposed to write the movie's script, however, the project was scrapped before it could start production.
It'd definitely be great to see Warner Brothers give the actor a role in the DCEU, thought right now we can't really be sure whether Luthor will be brought back to the big screen after the poor performance of the DCEU.
