Nicolas Cage Talks About What Would Have Made Ghost Rider A Great Movie

Sony's Ghost Rider movie and its sequel may have been a huge flop to critics, but actor Nicolas Cage still hasn't given up on the antihero's franchise, saying that he knows just how to give the Rider a the second shot on the big screen.

Sitting down to speak in an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Nicolas Cage opens up about what might make a Ghost Rider reboot work – an R-rated take on the previously tone down movie. According to the actor, if the first Ghost Rider had been given a shot at grit and gore the same way 20th Century Fox did with Deadpool and Logan, the film would have been nothing but a success.

"Had Ghost Rider been made in R-rated format, the way they had the guts to do with Deadpool, and they did it again today, I'm fairly certain it would be enormously successful," he said told the publication.

Still, while Cage admits that the film didn't do very well with critics, the actor still believes that the films did fairly well for themselves, mentioning the film did well on DVD and streaming.

"Having said that, I still think the movies were a hit," said Cage. "People don't look at the subsidiary outlets, like DVD and streaming and whatnot. When you look at what Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor did [on 2012's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance] for $50 million, and they got a $250 million return, you begin to see the genius of the sequel."

Ghost Rider may have become a campy cult movie for some, however, Cage has to admit that critics weren't all that happy with the movie, throwing criticism at the film when it released back in 2007 and when its sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance hit cinemas in 2011.

What do you think of the Ghost Rider movies? Would it have been better if it were allowed an R-Rated experience?
