Nickelodeon Greenlights Animated Star Trek Series

Star Trek has been back ever since Discovery debuted back in 2017, and now CBS is looking to expand on the franchise with an animated series from Nickelodeon.

While we don't have an official title yet, a CG-animated series for Star Trek is coming to Nick. According to Variety, the show will focus on a group of lawless teens who find an old Starfleet ship and use it for adventures and what have you.

The show comes from Dan and Kevin Hageman who were also behind animated series like Trollhunters and Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. Alex Kurtzman, who is attached as an executive producer of the series, also had this to say about the showrunners:

"‘Star Trek's' mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future. Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that's never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing ‘Trek' to a younger generation around the world."

Funnily enough, this isn't the only animated Star Trek series that's in the works. There's a more adult-oriented spinoff called Star Trek: Lower Decks, and it will focus on the life of the scrubs working the least glamorous jobs for Starfleet. The show comes from Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan.

Just for kicks, here's the intro for the animated Star Trek that came out in the 70s:

No release date has been announced for Nick's upcoming Star Trek series, but hopefully we get our first look sometime this year.
