Newly Discovered Cave Gets Named After Boba Fett's Sarlacc Pit

There's nothing quite like the Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi, or so we thought. A newly discovered cave in Canada has just been given a Star Wars-themed name because of its resemblance to the Great Pit of Carkoon.

According to CBC News, the cave was found in a remote valley in the Wells Gray Provincial Park in British Columbia. The cave is said to be 328 feet long and 196 feet wide. Scientists believe the pit could be 443 feet deep but it's highly unlikely that a Sarlacc is hiding in there. Geologist Catherine Hickson says "it's about the size of a soccer field."

"So, if you think of a soccer field and you put that soccer field on its end so you have this pit going down. Think about this giant circular or oval hole that just goes down and down and down. It is truly amazing," Hickson said of the cave.

Not surprisingly, the first people who found the cave decided to call it Sarlacc's Pit because it looks like the lair of the terrifying monster that famously gobbled up Boba Fett. However, it's highly unlikely that we'll find any Mandalorian armor in this cave.

The Sarlacc Pit has yet to be revisited in the Star Wars films since it took the bounty hunter in Return of the Jedi. However, some fans are hoping that we'll get to see a new Sarlacc in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. After all, there have been speculations that the show will take place in Tatooine. There's a possibility that even the Great Pit of Carkoon will be featured in the Jon Favreau series.
