Sony Pictures finally cracked the code on how to make a good comic book film franchise and in 2018, the studio undoubtedly struck gold with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Venom with both projects receiving unprecedented success.

Now, Eddie Brock's adventures continue in the sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage and by the looks of it, the odds will be stacked against the fan-favorite Spider-Man character.

Ahead of its highly anticipated release next month, Sony unleashed the second official trailer of the Spider-Man spinoff project starring Tom Hardy. In the brand new trailer, fans are given a better look at how the notorious Cletus Kasady becomes Carnage and the epic clash that will ensue between him and Eddie's symbiote alter-ego. But that's not all, aside from Carnage, the clip also sets up the arrival of another symbiote host in Frances Barrison aka Shriek. Check it out here:

It's quite obvious that Sony wants fans to root for Eddie Brock but I gotta say, I'm not used to him being portrayed as the underdog and quite frankly, I'm hoping that the studio will be able to bring back some edge to the character. He's a decent anti-hero for sure but he's it's hard to ignore the fact that he's always been suited for a more menacing role.

Obviously, the lack of Peter Parker is to blame but I think a Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover is happening soon especially now that the billion-dollar franchise has just unlocked the multiverse. But honestly, even if the showdown between Spidey and Venom didn't take place in the MCU, Sony still technically owns the character so they can easily call the shots.

Originally set for an October 2020 premiere, Venom: Let There Be Carnage will now hit cinemas on September 24, 2021.
