Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has had quite a journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only has the Asgardian God of Thunder experienced great personal losses in films like Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, but his character has also experienced a few changes as well, with Thor taking on a more casual language in Phase 3 of the franchise.
Though the Avenger started with a more formal way of speaking in the films of the earlier phase of the MCU like The Avengers, Thor, and Thor: Dark World, the Thunder God eventually took on a more casual vernacular in films like Ragnarok and Infinity War.
While most fans attribute this change to the arrival of Taika Waititi, the New Zealand indie darling who wowed Marvel fans with Ragnarok, a new theory tries to formally explain Thor's casual language.
Taking to Reddit, unknown_frenchman tries to address the shift in Thor's language in the MCU, suggesting that Thor sounds more casual in the newer films of the franchise because the audience is finally getting to know the Asgardian God of Thunder a whole lot better.
According to this new theory, Allspeak, the language spoken by the people of Asgard, sounds a lot like Shakespearean English to the people on Earth at first. However, as time goes on, viewers eventually adapt to this language, and so it becomes less formal to the audience.
It's a pretty interesting theory. Of course, fans could always bat way the language change by believing Marvel directors' explanation saying that Thor's simply learned to copy off Tony Stark's (Robert Downey Jr.) way of speaking.
Thor is set to return to Marvel in Thor: Love and Thunder which premieres on November 5, 2021.
